need for seeds

Seeds can provide the kind of slow energy release that is vital for keeping us feeling fuelled for longer.

Chia, flax, pumpkin and hemp seeds have been shown to be high in plant-based omega-3 fatty acids.

This complicated sounding acid, alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), is essential in allowing our bodies to fight inflammation and combat fatigue. In fact, low levels of omega-3 have been found to cause tiredness.

On the plus side the opposite is true and sprinkling seeds on our yoghurt in the morning could be a step towards reversing that and boosting our energy levels.

As well as being a great source of fibre and protein these seeds contribute to the slow digestion of their nutrients. The result? That slow release sustains energy levels for longer allowing you to keep to your exercise plan.

According to The Vegan Society you must “make sure that your daily diet includes good sources of ALA, such as chia seeds, ground linseed, hemp seeds and walnuts.”
