Ground Sumac 80g. Sumac derived from the Arabic “summaq,” meaning “dark red.”
The sumac ground spice originates from the Middle East, deep red in colour with a smoky, earthy, and slightly sour flavour.
Made from the red berries of the sumac plant or Rhus Coriaria shrub. The berries are dried and ground to form the coarse crimson powder.
Ground sumac is an essential spice used in Middle Eastern and Mediterranean cooking and will add colour and a citrus, lemon zest aroma to your meals.
A versatile spice, sumac can be used to flavour meat, and fish, and many salads. Use in cooking to replace lemon juice. It is the main ingredient in zatar, and can be combined with other spices such as all spice, and chilli flakes to make delicious marinades.
